Guided play, the domain of great video games, is found to be most effective at accelerating learning. โWhile free play is crucial for children's well-being, recent research emphasizes that guided play is a more effective approach to support childrenโs learning in reading, STEM, and learning-to-learn skills like attention, memory, and flexible thinking,โThe secret is to set the players on a challenge, quest or adventure that intersects with learning, while not breaking the flow. This means the learning must occur within the confines of the play narrative, giving hints and pointers along the way with lots of room for self discovery. This is the unmatched skill of great video game designers. Managing a challenge condition in alignment with a well told story or construct. Too hard and frustration sets in. Too easy and boredom and lack of accomplishment reduces the positive inducement to continue. Outside of the story and the flow state is interrupted. Of course, this type of play can be accomplished without a video game, but the medium lends itself to this method. When we think about teaching new skills on mass, be that STEM, learning-to-learn or even behaviors tied to better mental health, it is hard to imagine a broader reaching more effective approach than a well designed, engaging video game.DeepWell DTx #powerofplay #guidedplay #videogames #acceleratedlearning #fun Article Link: https://lnkd.in/g_Ty7WrA.

This is a great description of the complexities of landing edutainment. I often wonder if games should be grown first, proven successful, and only then education is woven in. Like, what if final fantasy was paired with education on global warming? ๐ค Subway surfers has used their game to promote social/environmental good campaigns (e.g., plant a tree). What are other examples of games that later added education?

Hey all.. Here is my article about "๐๐๐ ๐ซ๐๐ก๐ช๐ ๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ข๐๐จ ๐๐ฃ ๐๐๐ช๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ"::Education has changed a lot over time. Teachers are always looking for new ways to get students interested and motivated in learning. One thing that has become popular is using games in the classroom. Games are not just for fun; they can help students learn and develop important skills. In this article, we will talk about why games are so important in education. When students play games, they get engaged and motivated. Traditional teaching methods can be boring, and students might lose interest. But games are interactive and exciting, so students enjoy playing them. When educational content is included in games, students get interested and motivated to do well.Playing games also helps students learn how to work together and communicate effectively. Many games require teamwork, so players have to communicate and cooperate with each other. When students play games together, they learn how to work as a team, talk to each other, and get along. In conclusion, games are valuable in education for many reasons. They engage and motivate students, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, promote collaboration and communication, foster creativity and innovation, teach adaptability and resilience, reinforce subject knowledge, and provide immediate feedback. By using games in education, teachers can create a fun and effective learning environment that prepares students for the challenges of the future.#snsinstitutions#designthinking#snsdesignthinkers
